And then there were four...: South African blue-chip companies are beating a path to London. That's great news for estate agents and the Stock Exchange
Article Abstract:
Three major companies are to move their primary listings to London's stock exchange, with places in the FTSE 100 index, from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. They are Anglo American, South African Breweries and Old Mutual. South African companies have recognized the need to go global to compete, gaining access to a wider range of international capital. South African companies moving to London have had to restructure to untangle the labyrinth of cross-holdings and complicated ownership structures. Another major challenge is corporate governance.

Desperately seeking a chief exec
Article Abstract:
There is a shortage of chief executives for major United Kingdom companies, and those which lack a chief executive include Reckitt and Colman, National Power and Barclays. Rapid market and technological change mean that the turnover for chief executives is high, and consolidation means that there are fewer people able to take on the role of head of a large company. High-tech start-ups and management buy-outs also attract potential chief executives. Business involves a team effort, and expectations of chief executives may be too high.
