Architects in the kitchen: food for thought
Article Abstract:
Coop Himmelblau, Austrian architects, have designed the X-Time kitchen for the Ewe Kitchen Manufacturing Company of Austria. The X-Time kitchen design, like all their previous work, differs from all preconceived notions of what a kitchen should be. X-Time is an assembly of various parts that fulfill multiple functions. A stainless-steel column and beam support the movable work surfaces, minibar, storage box, sink, dishwasher and stovetop. The design is based on the concepts of exposed structure and function. Tough, textured materials, such as glass, stainless and blackened steel, artificial marble and perforated sheet metal, have been used.
