Assessing the use of derivatives as part of a risk-management strategy
Article Abstract:
Research on the use of securities derivatives as financial instruments has been well-publicized since the sharp increase in their use during the mid-1980s. Derivatives are used by firms as part of their risk-management strategy. An examination in the exogenous change in derivative use may solve bias problems during research. Analysts caution potential users of derivatives that these financial instruments are only one form of tool available for managing risks. These may increase or decrease risks.
