Skoda and VW: 10 years of the conquest of Europe

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), automotive firm, plans to launch a new model of a large limousine in 2001. The car will be another model series of Skoda cars after Felicia, Octavia and Fabia. The firm developed the new model in the past 10 years after its entrance to the concern Volkswagen (VW) (Germany) in 1991. In 1991 SA had one production line in Mlada Boleslav. The line produced about 170,000 Skoda Favorit cars per year in 1991. In 2000 SA sold a record quantity of more than 450,000 cars. The firm exported 80% of its Skoda car production in 2000, mainly to western countries. SA saw a profit of CEK 3.3 bil in 2000.

Skoda Auto launches Fabia sedan cars

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), automotive company, will launch the car model Fabia sedan onto the domestic market in May 2001. The basic version of the car will cost CEK 306,200. SA plans to sell at least 30,000 pieces of the model in 2001. The car will be available at all the firm's 230 domestic contracting partners.

Avia has to face a danger of bankruptcy proceedings for the reason of the 2000 loss

Daewoo Avia (DA) (Prague, Czech Republic), automotive company, saw a loss of CEK 1.046 bil in 2000. The loss exceeded DA's stock of CEK 1 bil and the firm is endangered by bankruptcy proceedings. In 1999 the company saw a loss of CEK 1.4 bil. The firm's board will probably not propose the bankruptcy proceedings but it has to find another solution.
