Mostecka Uhelna is profitable again

Mostecka uhelna spolecnost (Most, Czech Republic), brown coal mining company, saw a preliminary net profit of CEK 504.382 mil in 2000. In 1999 it had a loss of CEK 1.055 bil under proceeds of CEK 6.6 bil. The firm has a stock of CEK 8.835 bil. It is the first private mining company in the Czech Republic. It has a 96.37% stake held by Investenergy (Switzerland), which is the representative of Appian Group (US) in Europe.

Sokolovska Uhelna doubles profit

Sokolovska uhelna (SU) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), brown-coal mining company, saw an audited net profit of CEK 292 mil in 2000. In 1999 the company saw a profit of CEK 189 mil. Its revenues amounted to CEK 6.564 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 7.88 bil in 1999. In 2000 SU mined more than 10.3 mil t of brown coal, up 4% from 1999.

The sale of a pension fund raises the profit of Mostecka Uhelna

Mostecka uhelna spolecnost (MUS) (Most, Czech Republic), brown coal mining firm, expects a profit of about CEK 620 mil in 2001. MUS sold a majority stake in the pension fund Vseobecny vzajemny penzijni fond (VVPF) (Czech Republic) to the financial group Commercial Union, zivotni pojistovna (Czech Republic) during 1Q 2001. VVPF has about 120,000 clients. MUS holds a one-third stake in VVPF after the sale. MUS doubled its profit for 1Q 2001 compared to 1Q 2000, due to the sale. MUS decreased the number of its employees by 1,000 for 1Q 2001 compared to 1Q 2000.
