BT on the brink as Oftel deadline expires
Article Abstract:
British Telecommunications (BT) has been given a deadline to respond to the Office of Telecommunications (Oftel) which is seeking more regulatory power. A refusal to agree could mean that BT's share price drops due to being referred to the UK Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC). Oftel wants to be able to use a veto against moves by BT that appear to be anti-competitive. BT may prefer to have the regulatory system overhauled, but could lose whatever decision it takes.
