Bank defence fails to impress the City
Article Abstract:
The Bank of Scotland has bid for National Westminster Bank, which has set out disposal plans for four businesses, with stockholders to receive the proceeds. The businesses to be sold are NatWest Equity Partners, Ulster Bank, Greenwich NatWest and Gartmore. Further details are to be issued prior to Nov 22 1999, which is the last day NatWest can respond to Bank of Scotland's bid. Sector analysts are not impressed, though doubts have also been raised as to Bank of Scotland's ability to improve performance at NatWest.
