Bankers wrecked Wall St. research, says Jenrette
Article Abstract:
The research function of brokerage houses has been assumed by investment bankers with the result of reducing the quality and quantity of brokerage research by around four decades, stated brokerage/investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette founder Richard Jenrette. Investment research has become heavily dependent on investment banking, noted Jenrette. In fact, research by Wall Street has become superficial and applicable only for the short term. Jenrette observed that the US stock market can produce more damage if it crashes again because of the number of retirement funds existing.

ASTA says Bear Stearns report doesn't add up
Article Abstract:
The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) has disputed a Bear Stearns study on the Internet travel business that predicts that 25% of travel agents could lose their jobs as the online booking of trips increases. ASTA claims that the investment banking firm misinterpreted statistics provided by the Airline Reporting Corp. This report indicated that there are 45,000 travel agencies. ASTA says the figure includes 12,000 satellite ticket printers. ASTA also argued that there was a net decrease of 394 agencies in 1st half 1999, and not the 1,800 reported by Bear Stearns.
