Stay on track
Article Abstract:
Index tracker funds are proving popular among UK investors and there are over 50 available. Tracker funds could be vulnerable if there is a downturn for themarket as a whole. They have outperformed many actively managed funds during the bull market, but investors have been alarmed by the impact of stock price volatility on tracker funds. Investors should take a long term view and stay in for a five-year minimum period. They can also use protected funds, though these involve higher costs.

Dream scheme?
Article Abstract:
Investment trust savings schemes can give investors low-cost access to stocks in a way that compares favorably with buying stocks directly in small amounts. One such scheme is offered by Alliance Trust Savings, called the Alliance Investment Plan. While there are advantages for small investors, there is also a drawback in that timing of purchases is not controlled by investors. This may not be a problem for long-term investors who do not regularly buy and sell stocks.
