The US Supreme Court has taken interest in pursuing the threshold issue of patent eligibility in a case called Laboratory Corporation v. Metabolite Laboratories. The US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and the Federal Circuit should realize that the boundaries of the patent system are in urgent need of fortification.

The challenge to patent law of pure chemical protein synthesis

The emergence of pure chemical protein synthesis would put the patent system under serious problem as this method can be used as a commercially viable method for drug designing and production. Details on how the US patent systems are taking care of the new methods of synthesizing protein are discussed.
