Article Abstract:
The Bayh-Dole Act of 1980 forever changed the role of the university from purely pursuing knowledge to transferring that knowledge to the public domain for the public good. Lita Nelsen, the top technology transfer person of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Howard Bremer, arguably the dean of the US university technology transfer enterprise, are two individuals whose dedication has helped Bayh-Dole achieve 25 years of success.
