Blame the human condition
Article Abstract:
Stock selection uses the principle that much of what is selected will not increase in value, but there is the hope that enough of the stocks will perform well to make up for the failures. It is difficult to predict how well internet stocks will perform, and experts' predictions are often no better than those of amateurs, despite having access to information. Economic growth rates for the US and Europe were underestimated by experts in 1999, as were rises in corporate earnings and stock prices.
