Book quality publishing at your fingertips
Article Abstract:
Desktop publishing (DTP) systems offer accounting firms professional printing results with the advantages of speed, control, and quality. Aldus Corp's Pagemaker product for the Macintosh and IBM-compatible PCs and Xerox Corp's Ventura Publisher for IBM-compatible PCs are two popular software packages. Pagemaker for IBM computers and Ventura both require 640K of conventional memory, and 5MB of hard disk space. Additionally, the versions run under MS-DOS and OS/2 environments. PageMaker is a page make-up program rather than a full DTP system, while Ventura Publisher offers a wide range of features and expansion capability at a slightly increased cost. Ventura has the advantages over PageMaker of: retaining loaded text files in the original word processing format; independence and interchangeability of style sheets; and a greater range of typographical and other controls. PageMaker is superior to Ventura in the areas of interface and graphic image file enhancement.

Keep a check on wage and commodity costs
Article Abstract:
The rate of inflation in Great Britain at the end of 1984 is predicted to be 6 percent, caused by a 1 percent cost of living increase as evidenced by better than 2 percent increases in mortgage interest rates, although most commodity prices have stabilized. Commodity prices are analyzed for the period from 1970 to 1983, and wages are analyzed and compared to wage data from Japan.
