Brad Pitt, Homer Simpson and inflation
Article Abstract:
US inflation is subdued, although unemployment is below the level which many economists see as likely to trigger inflationary pressures. The drop in umemployment level may have been helped by a drop in import prices. Also, the expectations of the unemployed may have fallen, so they spend less time seeking for a good job, and are more prepared to take on less attractive work. Low levels of inflation and rapid increases in profits are not likely to continue at the same time for long, judging by past experience.

Justice on trial
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom financial ombudsmen are likely to see increased demand for their services, and reorganized is scheduled by late 1999. There are five financial ombudsmen in the UK and investors do not always know which one to turn to. Investors should contribute to the debate. There is a need for these ombudsmen as is shown by the high rate of pension schemes which are abandoned before three years have expired. This is a measure of whether consumers have been given appropriate advice.
