Outlook continues to be cloudy for national airline
Article Abstract:
British Airways has seen a drop in its stock price following the announcement of a drop in overall passenger numbers of 5.6% for Sep 1999 compared with Sep 1998. The company has focused on unfavorable comparisons with the previous year when there was heavy traffic following the World Cup, but market conditions are also becoming more difficult. Yields are affected by overcapacity, and the company has not been able to secure an agreement on code-sharing with American Airlines. The company also faces a rise in fuel prices and an exchange rate loss due to a rise in value of the Japanese yen in relation to pound sterling.
