Bull market buzz hits investment trusts
Article Abstract:
Lanica Trust's shares have been suspended following a tenfold rise after reports that the company was to bid for the retail activities of the Co-op. The company's shares are worth double underlying assets, while investment trusts have an average price at a discount to assets. Trusts such as Lanica have become mini-conglomerates and are characteristic of late bull markets, according to Merrill Lynch's Philip Middleton. Lanica is Andrew Regan's investment vehicle, and Regan previously acquired the food manufacturing activities of the Co-op, which he sold at a profit.
