Bumper funds update
Article Abstract:
Unit trusts have performed well in 1999, and it is easier to invest in these vehicles, while cost for investors have fallen. Changes in British tax regulations have meant that non-British stocks have been eligible for tax advanmtages through Isas. Changes in the classification of funds have meant that performance can more easily be assessed. Index trackers were especially popular at the start of the year. Meanwhile, investors still have some complaints such as high charges upfront, and misleading information on performance.

History is bunk
Article Abstract:
UK fund management groups have changed their investment styles which have become more tightly controlled, according to fund analyst, John Cuthbert. This changes has affected 45 unit trust managers of 58 surveyed. The risk of losses has been reduced, but so too has the chance of making a major gain. Cuthbert notes that past performance will be less of an indicator of future performance. He sets out seven investment styles, each with different risk levels.
