Cable TV programming: cable battle
Article Abstract:
The UK cable TV industry has been affected by a dispute between CableTel, a services provider, and Live TV which has won an injunction against CableTel. CableTel started to offer a basic package of four channels and cable telephony to households, called First Choice, from Oct 1996. The company argues that subscribers may be deterred by being offered large amounts of programming. The scheme has attracted subscribers and other cable companies are interested in using this method, but Live TV has taken legal action against being dropped from the First Choice package.

TV wars spark battle of the boxes
Article Abstract:
Television broadcasting is due to undergo major changes in the United Kingdom with the change to digital signals from analog signals. There will be an increase in channels to more than 300, and interactive TV will also be possible. The three competing platforms delivering digital TV to households, cable, satellite and terrestrial, will be in intense competition. Cable offers most services and terrestrial offers least, though content is the most important factor for consumers.
