Card tricks: There is little consistency among private banks when it comes to the provision of bank and credit card facilities making it vital to investigate what banks may have hidden up their sleeves
Article Abstract:
Not all private bankers provide their own badged current account and associated cash, debit or credit cards, particularly those that provide mainly investment management functions. Some banks issue a cheque guarantee card that also acts as a debit card and ATM card, as part of the overall service, for which a fee is charged. However Coutts does not impose charges on current accounts with balances of 3,000 pounds sterling or more, but Duncan Lawrie's Visa debit card will cost 50 pounds sterling a year. C Hoare & Co's Visa credit card offers 52 days interest free and a charge of 20 pounds sterling a year.

Investment focus now is on asset maintenance
Article Abstract:
Private bankers are increasingly promoting themselves as asset managers, moving away from the pure banking approach. People considering using a private bank should pay careful attention to the style of investment management which the bank is likely to adopt, and should take into account the costs of the various services offered. It is also useful to establish a performance benchmark with the private banker at the beginning of a working relationship.

Private client services: customer satisfaction tops priorities
Article Abstract:
UK private client services for investors depend on providing client satisfaction, and this is in turn dependent on relationships between clients and service providers. Types of services offered in the UK have been analysed, but not all aspects of services can be tabulated. One aspects which is omitted is the quality of advice offered to investors. Staff turnover and recommendations from existing clients are two indications of quality levels.
