Cash and carry
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service (USPS) has limited the number of banks processing its $87 billion annual cash holdings from 5,500 in 1993 to only 25 in 1999. The remaining banks process transactions for the agency's 38,519 offices and branches throughout the US. USPS treasurer Stephen Kearney was primarily responsible for the reduction when he changed an early request-for-proposal that screened banks through a strict process. The remaining banks serving USPS include One Valley Bancorp, Fulton Financial and Central Carolina Bank.
