Cash without dash
Article Abstract:
European Union (EU) funds are available for Merseyside, England, but it is difficult to gain access to these funds and smaller firms esepcially may find procedures too bureaucratic. The funds became available because gross domestic product (GDP) in the region fell to under 75% of the average for the EU. Capital projects are supported by the European Regional Development Fund, and job creation and training are supported by the European Social Fund.

Focus changes from east to west
Article Abstract:
The Czech Republic is seeking to join the European Union and this reflects the increased importance of trade with western Europe. Trade with some eastern European countries such as Poland and Slovenia has started to recover. The growing Czech trade deficit has led to calls for the devaluation of the Czech koruna but the government argues that the defcit is temporary and is linked to the need for technology and raw materials imports.
