Chase Manhattan
Article Abstract:
Chase Manhattan has become popular with investors following the announcement of a merger with Chemical Banking. Cost savings and market strength should both benefit the new bank. The company faces competition in the loans market and this has affected margins. The economic crash of Mexico in late 1994 led to a money market crisis which has affected Chase's income from capital market trading. Cost containment for 1995 has been good despite a drop in benefits from asset sales in relation to 1994.

Banks biased towards own funds
Article Abstract:
UK banks tend to recommend their own funds despite advertising their advice as independent. Regulations only permit independent advisers with brokers and UK banks to recommend in-house funds if these perform better than alternatives, but few bank funds perform this well. Banks differ in how they interpret the regulations, with some banks openly only recommending in-house funds. Clients with larger sums to invest tend to have more options offered to them.
