Cognitive failures and performance differences: validation studies of a German version of the cognitive failures questionnaire
Article Abstract:
The development of a German version of Broadbent's Cognitive Failures Questionnaire took place because there was no comparable German instrument. The observable failures in everyday situations (libraries, dry cleaners and property office) were used as an external validity criteria. The inventories of trait anxiety, coping styles and action styles were used for construct validation. Most of the correlations were significant and in the expected direction, whereas the positive correlations were significant but moderate in size. The unidimensionality of the construct is being further investigated.

A comparison of the cognitive demands of navigating two- versus three-dimensional spatial database layouts
Article Abstract:
Target search performance in two- and three-dimensional spatial database configurations were examined. Twenty-four students participated in the study. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in the performance of either two- and three-dimensional databases. However, it was found that the two-dimensional configuration provided better maneuverability as well as ease of use. There was no interaction between spatial ability and database structure suggesting that spatial ability is not related to the interface's spatial content.

A critical examination of perceptual and cognitive effects attributed to full-spectrum fluorescent lighting
Article Abstract:
Research describing the evidence found between 1945 and 1998 in support of the claim that full-spectrum fluorescent lighting improves cognitive perception and vision is presented. The connections between flicker rates and behaviour are examined.
