Comparison of the effects of backpack loading and of walking speed on foot-floor contact patterns
Article Abstract:
Make- and break-contacts of pedal segments take place relatively faster in relation to an increase in speed, while forefoot contacts are made faster yet broken slower in relation to an increase in loads. This was concluded by a study that sought to compare the influences of speed and load on the temporal and distance factors of foot-floor contact. To measure backpack loading and walking speed influences, 45 young adult shoeless males were asked to walk the length of a 40 m walkway unburdened and with loads of varying weights under controlled speed conditions.

Biomechanical assessment of lateral stiffness elements in the suspension system of a backpack
Article Abstract:
Rods were added to a backpack for lateral stiffness to examine the change in load distribution characteristics with position and mass of the payload fixed at 25 kgs. It was found that these active stiffness elements shifted 14% of the vertical load from the upper torso to the pelvic region.

Evaluation of book backpack load during walking
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to evaluate the accumulated mean and impact forces per stride and per metre related with the backpack load and cadences, in single and double support phases of walking. The results show that the load stress is more in double support phases of walking.
