Continental Europe: les miserables
Article Abstract:
Domestic demand has been weak in mainland Europe though interest rates have been low, according to BZW. This is mainly because consumer demand has been weak since consumption is the largest part of domestic demand. Weak or absent employment growth has hit incomes and consumer confidence. Negative employment growth over three years has affected Spain, Italy, France and Germany and consumer spending has not been above 1% on average for these countries.
