Philips wants to invest another CEK 20 bil
Article Abstract:
Philips (Netherlands), electronic firm, is considering the construction of a second large picture tube production plant in the Czech Republic. The investment costs on the construction should be more than CEK 20 bil. The placement of the plant has not been decided yet, the firm is considering Hungary, Poland or Asian countries. The chance of the Czech Republic is about 90% and the plant could be located in Brno. The firm should decide by the end of Mar 2001. The construction should be started in the summer of 2001. In the summer of 2001 Philips will start the production of classical picture tubes at its first Czech plant in Hranice. The total level of the investment costs on the plant is USD 624 mil. The plant should produce 2.5 mil picture tubes and should employ 3,000 persons in 2007.

Philips (Netherlands), electrical engineering concern, has become the most important investor in the Czech Republic. In 2000 the firm promised to invest CEK 7.4 bil in the construction of a picture tube production plant in Hranice-na-Morave, the Czech Republic. The second position is held by Matsushita (Japan), which will increase its initial investment in Panasonic TV-set manufacturing in Plzen, Czech Republic, by another CEK 2.738 bil. The third position is held by Parker Hannifin (US), which has invested CEK 370 mil in the production of automotive components in Chomutov, the Czech Republic.

Schmalbach wants to invest in Plzen
Article Abstract:
Schmalbach-Lubeca (Germany), the second largest European drink can manufacturer, plans to enlarge its plant in Ejpovice near Plzen, the Czech Republic. The plant's production capacity should triple to 1.2 bil cans by 2005 compared to the current 400 mil cans per year. The firm plans to build a new hall in Ejpovice. The investment costs on the project should be USD 15-20 mil, about CEK 800 mil.
