Cooking with gas
Article Abstract:
Gas utility issues are experiencing a significant amount of purchase by insiders despite their relatively high prices. This renewed confidence in gas utility shares indicates that the buyers are discounting any possibility of another inflation. It is also safe to believe that no dividend reduction will occur in firms whose stocks are being accumulated. The insider purchase is evident in companies such as New Jersey Resources, Mobile Gas Service, Southern Union, Burlington Resources, North Carolina Natural Gas, Western Gas Resources and Williams Companies.

Utility insiders ... setting sights on rates
Article Abstract:
Stocks owned by gas utilities remain attractive to buyers despite the sharp decline in the Utility Average in Feb. 1996. Insider buyers consider gas utility shares as wise investments because of their stability. On the other hand, electric utilities are still reeling from the effect of the market's high interest rate anxiety. Electric utility shares dropped about 5% in Apr. 1996 as the price of electricity declined considerably.
