Corporations adopt skeleton crews
Article Abstract:
A recent survey shows that US companies are having more part-time employees at various positions, including managerial posts. The study from New York-based corporate research company Catalyst, indicates that only 43% of respondent-employees noted that they work in the usual full-time work schedule, from 9AM to 5PM, five days a week. The study, which also shows that 85% of part-time employees are in middle management and top executive posts, also links unconventional work schedules to positive workforce feedbacks. These cosntructive responses include productivity gains, which are reported by 50% of part-time employees surveyed; higher morale, reported by 92% of respondents; and the promotion of employee retention, reported by almost 80% of managers surveyed.

Customization nation
Article Abstract:
Firms have been forced by more demanding clients and new technology to offer products that are designed to meet the individual needs of their clients. For instance, McDonald's of Oak Brook, IL, is designing a system that would enable the company to offer made-to-order food. Levi Strauss, whose effort to customize its jeans for women was a success, expanded its custom fit program to cater to both men and women.
