Defense industry faces squeeze in looming competitiveness crunch

The US defense industry is facing growing pressure in jobs, skills and the ability to innovate as overseas firms are creating software and taking on tasks formerly completed domestically. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) study has found that the US competitiveness is not under crisis at the moment, but has found an alarming situation evolving in coming years as the indicators for the future are almost all in the wrong direction.

Analyst: Big changes afoot in defense industry

The director of the Industry Studies Program has stated that big changes occurring in the defense industry are bringing with them new trends that ought to be part of the 2005 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR). The QDR is an every-four-years, top-to-bottom review of U.S. military posture and strategy done for the president and Congress and the 2005 QDR is expected to be completed early next year.
