Survey: database costs surge; although price is high, sites may save later
Article Abstract:
A survey of database prices indicated that the cost of adding database capabilities in large Web sites has increased by 113% as of Mar 1998. For medium and small sites, the median price increased by 29% and 41%, respectively. Despite these increasing trends in database prices, experts believe that Web-based marketers can save on development costs in the future and by addressing content control issues which greatly contribute to the high cost of Web site management.
