ZD tops IDG as CIMS sees new media emerging

Ziff-Davis Publishing Co's PC Magazine reaches more computer-buying influencers than International Data Group Inc's PC World magazine based on IntelliQuest's Computer Industry Media Study (CIMS). However, the two publications ranked only seventh and 10th, respectively, among the top magazines in Version 5.0 of CIMS. The top magazines are People, Time, National Geographic, Newsweek, USA Today and Sports Illustrated. The study also showed that the media habits of Americans who influence the computer products and services bought by their businesses are changing.

Trade e-zines skip the ink and paper; IDG uses online publications to target high-tech niche readers

Many companies are now turning to online magazines or Webzines, as a way to advertise their products and services. This growing demand for online marketing led International Data Group to launch four Webzines, through its Web Publishing division, that targets the information technology industry. Some of the Webzine titles includes SunWorld, Network Computing World and JavaWorld. An executive from one of the Webzine advertisers indicated that buyers have positively responded to their online marketing efforts which led to an increase in its Web site visitors.

High-tech titles attract ad dollars of 'Top 100.' (high-technology publications; top 100 business marketers) (Top Five Publications)

The five most favored publications by companies that made it to the top 100 business marketing survey of Business Marketing Magazine were all high-technology-related periodicals. The top choice was PC Magazine which earned a total of $122.8 million from advertisements on its pages. The runners-up include the PC Week which earned $59.9 million, Infoworld with $43.5 million, Computerworld with $30 million and PC World with $25.8 million.
