The U.S. Air Force plan to lease one hundred 767 Boeing airliners for their conversion into refueling planes has been suspended primarily because of Senator John McCain's criticism. Supporting the deal, Representative Norm Dicks condemns the Pentagon's inspector general, Senator McCain and the European aircraft maker Airbus for their role in the derailment of the deal.

Airbus should win new tanker deal, Korb says

Lawrence Korb, the senior official at the Pentagon stated that the scandal smeared Boeing Company would lose out to Airbus Industries in the competition to provide tankers to the U.S. Air force. He expressed concern at the high costs of the war in Iraq and the galloping deficit between revenues and federal spending.
