Dissonance on Wall Street
Article Abstract:
US bond markets have performed better in 1995 than in 1995, aided by hopes of a soft landing for the US economy. This has helped the market for share prices which have also performed better in 1995. There is concern that a slowdown in growth could lead to a recession, following the release of data on employment and other economic indicators. It is difficult to assess prospects for growth since indicators are contradictory, with consumer confidence still strong, for example. There is a possibility that markets have misread signals.

Nothing to worry about unless you're nervous
Article Abstract:
Stock prices have risen int he US and United Kingdom, and this includes value stocks. The euro currency looks set to drop, and European interest rates may fall more easily after the departure of Oskar Lafontaine from the post of German finance minister. Germany faces economic problems, and German stocks have not risen as much as those of the US and UK. Meanwhile, cash could represent 6% of the total assets of institutional investors in the United Kingdom, according to Merrill Lynch.

Cash crisis
Article Abstract:
A reduction in global liquidity could affect stock prices. The foreign exchange reserves of Asian central banks are being reduced as they support their currencies, and this reduces their money supply. Less is available for buying financial assets with the expansion of the US and European economies. This could lead to a sharp drop in liquidity. This drop may not hit stock prices but it is of concern to investors since such a fall was linked to a drop in stock prices in 1982.
