Doing well by doing a body good: an evaluation of the industry-funded nutrition education program conducted byu the Dairy Council of California
Article Abstract:
An industry-financed nutrition education program offered to junior high school students in California by the Dairy Council of California (DCC) is examined. The program is composed of education materials given to teachers to help in the teaching of nutrition. DCC's activities are funded through a per-unit assessment on California milk. The advantages for the dairy industry were assessed with regards to the cost of the program. Using a number of reasonable assumptions, the advantages as a result of increased milk consumption outweigh the costs of the program.

Financial performance of New England dairy farms
Article Abstract:
A study to identify the determinants of financial performance of dairy farms was conducted. A sample of 124 New England dairy farms was classified according to financial position using Melichar's procedure, which examines debt-to-asset ratio, return on assets, return on equity and equity level. Logistic regression results indicate that production per cow, operating expense per cow, milk price, farm size and location are among the primary determinants of financial performance.
