Dwek's family affair

Newmark Technology has a 40% stake held by the chairman, Maurice Dwek and a further 40% held by Alexander Reid, a non-executive director. A share flotation has raised 800,000 pounds sterling with 582,000 pounds of this for the company and the remainder accounted for by expenses. Newmark aims to develop tagging technology with funds raised, including technology to allow companies to monitor the location of expensive assets in a building. The company reported a loss of 163,000 pounds for the period Aug 1996 to Feb 1997 and a profit of 802,000 pounds is forecast for the 12 months to April 1998 by Grant Thornton.

Manned guarding is the company's main activity, and electronic surveillance is a growing division which has started to make a profit. The company pays above average for the industry which helps reduce employee turnover and means that the minimum wage will not present problems. A high proportion of the company's contracts are longer term. Reliance Security's profit is forecast at 6.2 million pounds sterling for 1998 to 1999 by Charterhouse Tilney.

Channel Holdings: the Basys factor

Channel Holdings has acquired Basys, and electronics concern, for 11.75 million pounds sterling and this has boosted the company's prospects for growth. there are a number of issues that need to be tackled following the acquisition such as there being two chief executives. There are also rumors that shareholders are seeking to appoint Andrew Bruce, formerly head of Basys, as chief executive with Patrick Rogers, who holds the title of chief executive taking on a non-executive role.
