Leaves out of the American book
Article Abstract:
Private equity funds tend to attract insurers and pension funds as investors in both the US and Europe, but there are also differences such as start-ups being more important in the US. UK institutions tend to be more cautious. Start-up investments are more likely to result in poor performance though MBO funds have tended to perform well, according to a UK survey. European venture capital is increasingly attracting international money especially for the biggest funds.

Overview
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom private equity market has seen increased activity in the year to Jun 1998. Buyins and buyouts have become more popular. There is a debate as to whether the market has become overheated, and some parallels have been drawn between conditions in 1998 and those found in 1989. Non-domestic banklenders have re-entered the market, and gearing levels have risen, as occurred in 1989. There are enough similarities for the industry to be wary.
