EST patent granted for human kinase homologs
Article Abstract:
Palo Alto, CA-based Incyte Pharmaceuticals was awarded the first patent for an expressed sequence tag (EST)- a gene fragment containing partial cDNAs of expressed mRNAs-claiming polynucleotides that identify and encode novel human kinases. The patent could result in new increased licensing revenue. The language of the patent may make it possible for Amgen to claim not only the EST but the full gene, which concerns other companies.
