EU levy worries
Article Abstract:
Partridge Fine Arts specializes in antique furniture, and has a sound business, which had almost no debt in 1996. The company's stock price has risen since Nov 1997 and could rise further, but there is uncertainty about the market as a whole. The European Union brought in a 2.5% levy for imported art works in 1995, and this levy could rise to 5% in 1999. Large auction houses could transfer major sales out of London, England, to the US. Almost 70% of the company's customers are from abroad. The increase in duty and the strength of pound sterling could adversely affect the company.
