Wall Street's so good it can only be bad
Article Abstract:
Bulls prefer to be a minority, and conditions are difficult when too many traders and investors forecast a stock price rise. Money market funds have attracted money from equities and stock price rises have been limited to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with smaller firms performing less well. Index-linked funds appear attractive, since few fund managers beat the index. US new issues linked to the internet have tended to perform well, and other sectors are tending to be overshadowed by internet stocks.

Australia: up down under
Article Abstract:
The Australian stock market has benefited from rises in commodity prices, and a change in government could also boost share prices. Australia's current account deficit may narrow due to a rise in unemployment as the economy slows. There are also risks involved in this market. Problems could arise from industrial unrest and privatizations could glut the market. Mining shares could also be affected by changes in commodity prices.
