Eastern promise
Article Abstract:
Eastern European countries are starting to recognize the importance to economic growth of efficient communications systems. In the former East Germany and in other parts of the region, telephone subscribers are now being connected to new digital networks through cellular or microwave radio. Digital overlay networks are quickly being developed all around Eastern Europe as a stop-gap measure to improve business telecommunications. Very small aperture terminals, which facilitate the easy and inexpensive establishment of satellite communications, are also becoming popular. The eagerness of Eastern European countries to modernize their communications structure is a boon for western telecommunications companies. British Telecom and AT&T have already begun doing business in the region.

The ins and outs of payroll
Article Abstract:
Computer service bureaus provide organizations with an alternative to running payroll in-house. Economies of scale forms the basis for opting for the payroll services of data processing houses since mainframe computer systems and peripherals, staffing requirements, and payroll maintenance and development costs are shared. Bureaus also allow for a greater extent of confidentiality of salary data. However, in-house payroll systems continue to provide the ability to facilitate any necessary integrations with other systems. Several organizations illustrate the functionality of both in-house and bureau-based payroll systems.
