IT off the shelf
Article Abstract:
Computers can now be bought off the shelf with the emergence of 'computer superstores.' These retail stores allow customers to see what products are available and to ask for on-the spot advice. Computer superstores first came to being in the US in 1982. Almost a decade later, these superstores have succeeded in selling some $2.8 billion worth of computer products. In the UK, two chains of computer superstores have recently been established. One of these is the British firm PC World, and the other is the American company Business Superstore. Both superstores are targeting small and medium-sized businesses, but they are employing different approaches. Business Superstore is building itself up as a provider of a wide range of computer products, while PC world is trying to establish itself as a computer specialist. The stores offer accountants the chance to get their own computers, which they can touch and feel, at affordable prices.
