Educational programmes for shiftworkers, their families, and prospective shiftworkers
Article Abstract:
Seven guiding principles of the design of educational program for shiftworkers are presented. These principles focus on the designing process, and not on specific techniques/variables which might be used. Consequently, shiftwork educational program recommendations must be relevant, practical, limited in number and supplemental. Moreover, such programrequires a big investment in time and it is remedial in nature. Lastly, these seven principles must be evaluated thoroughly and tested for validity.

Teaching grandmothers how to suck eggs: do shiftworkers need rules or guidelines?
Article Abstract:
The mechanisms of effective transmission of guidelinesto shiftworkers are investigated. Basically, there are four sources of useful rules that are products of research: summaries by academics for governments, reviews published in professional journals for shiftworkers, guidelines by shiftwork researchers and international standards. The available guidelines provide shiftworkers with much-needed coping mechanisms, but the challenge liesin the successful communication with shiftworkers.

Article Abstract:
A team of European shiftwork experts assembled to produce 86 recommendations in six sections for the improvement of shiftworkers' well-being. Of the 86, there are 14 rules for a good shift system, 36 steps for better sleep, 12 guidelines for eating, 6 rules for physical fitness, 11 rules for psychological well-being and 7 rules for managers. Lastly, the framework of the guidelines needs further testing and experimentation for greater validity.
