Article Abstract:
Article discusses conditions that accelerate and at the same time abate the process of integration amoung the financial industries of the European Community. The question entertained is what impact does this uneven integrative process have on the efficiency of the financial services industries in the EC. Author cites the acquisition of the Morgan Grenfell banking firm, opposition to British banks on a proposed free checking service and the launching of the DM-dominated commercial paper to illustrate forces affecting financial services.

Efficiency in the Japanese financial services industry
Article Abstract:
Article considers that Japanese financial services industries could improve the quality of service as more competition is generated which could lead to more integration within the industry. It presents examples of proposed guidelines for regulation being considered that could possibly hinder the efficiency level of the banking industry based on the strictness of implementation. The proposed guidelines include the 'No-Return Rule' and another that includes the implementation of ownership restictions.
