Electric utility insiders: do sells signal a rate change?
Article Abstract:
Historical data indicate that decreased insider transactions profiles in the electric utility sector of the stock market during the early part of 1998 indicates an imminent increase in interest rates. This indication goes against the prevailing opinion which gives a rise in US interest rates a very low probability rating at this time. An analysis of the history of the collective transactions of electric utility insiders vis-a-vis long-term interest rate trends, however, shows that trends in this sector predict interest rate trends in an inverse manner.

As the giant stirs
Article Abstract:
The US dollar's decrease in value in comparison with the Japanese yen has caused minimal change in the stock markets. Stocks continue to sell well within the market. However, a close study of insider trading may yield clues on how companies that are involved in export trade are coping with the lowered buying power brought by the dollar. Traders should also glean information from the amount of actvity centered on these export companies.

Utility insiders and steady rates
Article Abstract:
Insider activities in utility issues can aid investors in looking for stocks with attractive yields. They also provide clues on whether or not there will be an increase in interest rates in the future as they usually do not buy utility shares when there is a threat of interest rate increase but rather engage in group selling. It has been noticed that group buying has improved utility industry rating.
