Energy saver on workers' comp
Article Abstract:
Chicago, IL-based, Peoples Energy Corp established a workers' compensation cost-saving program. It created an internal medical department which assesses an employee's injury, classifies it as work-related or not and determines the severity of the condition. From there, injured workers are referred to the company's preferred-provider network. The program has reduced workers' compensation costs by as much as $600,000 from 1997-1998. However, according to a survey by J&H Marsh & McLennan, the energy market's efforts remain inadequate in containing workers' compensation costs.

Dealing with evil
Article Abstract:
One major challenge in crisis management is the disclosure of bad news which may affect the business, stock price and investor relations. This is why managers are put in a dilemma whether to disclose or just keep silent about the problem. However, a guide for a more precise definition of what must be disclosed by corporations is being designed by the SEC. Rubenstein Associates in New York senior executive vice president Peter Rosenthal stressed that investor relations must be given the most attention when deciding to disclose.
