Enhancing corporate performance through quality-driven pollution prevention
Article Abstract:
Foxboro Co. combined its pollution prevention programs with a total quality environmental management (TQEM) concept to cut pollution and manufacturing costs and thereby improve its performance as a whole. A manufacturer of instruments and automation systems for industrial process control, Foxboro has been pursuing source reduction since the late 1970s. It was able to significantly reduce its volatile organic compound emissions. In 1992, with the implementation of TQEM, Foxboro improved its manufacturing efficiency by producing less waste, using less energy and lowering costs.

Juran Institute: a barometer of trends in quality management
Article Abstract:
Joseph M. Juran's Juran Institute remains one of the top organizations in the US in the field of quality management. Founded in 1979, the firm's initial product was a videocassette called 'Juran on Quality Improvement.' It also offered quality-improvement courses, making it a good barometer of quality trends worldwide. The need for total quality management became more acute as consumers became more demanding and as international competition increased. To be an effective organization, one must then involve the whole organization in adopting strategic quality planning.
