Entrepreneurs: The missing link in the training of medical scientists
Article Abstract:
The turning of laboratory advances into medical therapies is proving surprisingly difficult as universities seem unable to train, or even identify, translational investigators who specialize in bridging the gap between laboratory and patient. The solution lies in the translational research that is taking place in the dozens of startup companies that could be found in university towns across the US, which represent an entrepreneur's best effort at solving the problem.
