The patentatibility of medicinal inventions related to personalized medicine in Japan
Article Abstract:
The Japan Patent Office in April 2005 clarified its Examination Guidelines for inventions related to the use of medicines, which, until then, were not considered patentable in Japan. The new guidelines, which give enhanced patent protection to these inventions, are expected to have a great impact on pharmaceutical companies and have an effect on their research strategies.

Emerging patent issues in genomic diagnostics
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court is interested in reconstructing patent law in a way that may affect the genomic diagnostics industry. Diagnostic patents raise important difficulties in the future for pharmacogenetics and of tests and devices that could identify many mutations quickly.
