Fight for survival
Article Abstract:
Samina Quraeshi, Director of the Design program of the National Endowment for the Arts, states that her aim is to make people understand the interdisciplinary nature of the program. National level cooperation between designers, industry and the government is needed to popularize design. She feels design programs should be included in early education and at graduate and undergraduate levels. She welcomes cooperation with Commerce and Education departments but working under the control of these departments will be counter-productive.

Vital signs
Article Abstract:
Milanese poet-designer Ettore Sottsass' achievements continue to influence design thinking even today. In his 80th year, the artist has created a body of highly innovative ceramic art with each piece standing almost three feet high. The functional pieces were inspired by a visit to the Forest of Stones museum in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. They defy interpretation and total 19 pieces in a limited edition of seven per piece.
