Evaluation of the ability of power to predict low frequency lifting capacity
Article Abstract:
Research was performed to determine the function of lifting power in relation to an individual's lifting capacity for a frequency of one lift per eight hours and to predict the role of strength on the maximum weight of lift (MAWL). It was believed that power was involved in lifting capacity rather than isometric strength. Findings revealed that dynamic strength was more effective in predicting lifting capacity than isometric strength. The peak isoinertial power was directly correlated with MAWL since it is its best predictor.

Effect of semi-rigid lumbosacral orthosis use on oxygen consumption during repetitive stoop and squat lifting
Article Abstract:
The impact of a semi-rigid lumbosacral orthosis (SRLSO) on oxygen consumption was investigated in a sample of 15 males and females during repetitive lifting using stoop and squat techniques. Differences were found in the stoop and squat methods, with squat lifts requiring more oxygen than stoop lifts. However, no significant differences were found between the belt and no belt condition within the same lifting technique. These results suggested that SRLSO does not help stabilize the spine during lifting bouts.

The psychophysical lifting capacities of Chinese subjects
Article Abstract:
Assessment of the psychophysical lifting capacity (MAWL) of 12 young Chinese males and comparison with MAWLs of previous studies revealed that their capacity to lift depended on their body size. Task parameters of lifting range and frequency had a major influence on the extreme acceptable weights of lift for the Chinese subjects, who are found to be of smaller body size in comparison to Caucasians.
